Participate in a one-day Community Geocaching workshop to learn:
- What is changing in travel and tourism, and why travelers are seeking community experiences that are authentic, down-to-earth, and unique.
- What Geocaching is all about, and participate in a new community Geocaching activity using GPS receivers.
- Develop an inventory of what travelers would like to see in your community.
- The benefits of Geocaching as a tourism driver to your community.

What are the top three reasons to attend this workshop?
- To kick-start a small community group to create more Geocaches and GPS learning experiences in your community.
- To create new ways to use Geocaching to generate new tourism events, packages, and activities for your community year-round that brings new revenues.
- To have fun working together with other community members as you discover your community’s rich resources through “the eyes of your visitors”.
What are some of the activities that will take place during the workshop?
- An introduction to GPS satellite receiver technology and Geocaching; what makes it a popular travel tool for families, couples, and seniors?
- Some information about what people want to see and experience when they Geocache and come to rural locations.
- You will develop a brief inventory of the important historical, cultural, and nature-based features that visitors should experience when they visit your community, and how some of these places can be part of a fun and adventurous Geocache or GPS learning experience.
- To record your observations about what makes for a good travel experience for visitors to your community.
- A short Power Point presentation about experiential travel, Geocaching, and new tourism and travel trends.
- You will partner with other workshop participants and use a GPS satellite receiver to travel to a unique Geocache in your community, developed by some of your community members. Fun, fun, fun!
- Create a small working group of people who would like to create more Geocaches, Earth Caches or other types of geocaches in your community.
- Identify next steps that you would like to see so that this form of tourism becomes part of your community’s tourism strategy and new business opportunities and revenues.
